AJ Khubani. Seeing possibility. Building what’s next.
Behind Telebrands is an entrepreneur with a remarkable instinct for the everyday—and the determination to turn an idea into something the world can see.
Ajit “AJ” Khubani founded Telebrands in 1983 while still a college student. What followed was a career spent identifying practical ideas, bringing them to market, and helping create a new way for consumers to discover products.
The AmberVision sunglasses campaign became an early breakthrough. When those television-promoted glasses reached retail shelves, AJ saw a larger opportunity: an identity and a dedicated place in stores for products people recognized from TV.
His “As Seen on TV” logo and work to establish the retail category helped shape the company’s next chapters—from PedEgg and Pocket Hose to today’s expanding collection of brands.
AJ brought his experience building Telebrands to the evaluation of inventions on PitchMen. Executive producer and on-screen star Anthony “Sully” Sullivan describes him as a recurring cast member, judge and product evaluator, helping assess inventions and their commercial potential.
Sullivan also recalls AJ being referred to within the show as the Godfather of the infomercial business.
Princeton University’s Entrepreneurial Engineering program September 2005–January 2011
From September 2005 through January 2011, AJ chaired the Industrial Directors Board for Princeton University’s Entrepreneurial Engineering program. Working with Professor Daniel M. Nosenchuck, he helped develop the entrepreneurial content and contributed teaching and mentorship across six fall-semester offerings.
He recruited Telebrands professionals as lecturers, mentors and reviewers. After many course offerings, AJ personally accompanied selected student teams on educational manufacturing visits to China, fully funded by AJ and/or Telebrands. Professor Nosenchuck’s statement documents this contribution; precise trip and student totals remain under review.
AJ’s commitment to entrepreneurship extended to Montclair State University. The university’s 2018 Giving Day record documents his $500,000 gift supporting student inventors.
Through Telebrands Inventors Days and appearances on Discovery Channel’s PitchMen, AJ brought the process of evaluating ideas into public view. A familiar household frustration could become the beginning of an entrepreneurial journey.
